South Carolina DU volunteers meet with Rep. Duncan, highlight importance of NAWCA

Ducks Unlimited's South Carolina Public Policy Chair Bill Short, along with State Chairman Andy Stevenson and State Chairman Elect John Leaphart, had an excellent meeting recently with U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC). The three provided Rep. Duncan with the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) state fact sheet, produced by DU's Governmental Affairs Office, which details projects, partners and total dollars invested in the state as a result of NAWCA grants.

Rep. Duncan was very receptive not only to supporting appropriations for NAWCA, but also to potentially supporting the House NAWCA reauthorization bill (H.R. 1960) as a cosponsor. Plans are in place to follow up with his office about a visit to the ACE Basin to show the congressman how DU is conserving wetlands through NAWCA.

Short, Stevenson and Leaphart made a strong presentation on the policy issues paramount to DU's conservation mission, clearly demonstrating the importance of volunteer leadership and support in the public policy arena.
