For the first time ever, DU is bringing this special event to East Hartford, Conn., Sept. 18 & 19 at the East Hartford Cabela's
The festival will offer something for all outdoor recreational interests. Featured activities include:
- Dog-training demonstrations
- Woodcarving seminars
- Conservation seminars
- Educational exhibits
- Vendors such as outfitters and guides, gun manufacturers, waterfowl taxidermists and waterfowling equipment retailers
The festival offers something for everyone in the family too. Kids will enjoy activities such as:
- Soap carving
- Wood carving
- Duck toss
- Decoy-head painting
- Display featuring 51 of the top junior stamp entries for the 2010-2011 Federal Junior Duck Stamp program
Highlighting the festival is a woodcarving contest, in which world-class carvers will compete for thousands of dollars in prizes by turning hand-carved duck decoys into fascinating works of art. Decoy carving is considered by many to be the only true American art form and originated in the town of Stratford, Conn., in the late 1700s. Some of the oldest decoys in America will be on hand as part of an exhibit titled, "Connecticut Decoys."
The festival is free and open to the public, so there's no excuse for missing out on this unforgettable event!
