Goose Creek Game Lands - Phragmites Control

Purpose: To enhance habitat quality within a complex of brackish impoundments on Goose Creek Game Lands through herbicide application on noxious stands of phragmites and purchase and installation of pumps / power units to facilitate flooding and draw down of the impoundments. These managed wetlands are extremely important to waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds and raptors that migrate along coastal North Carolina. This area is managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to provide quality wetlands habitat and offer additional hunting opportunities to the public.

Location: Goose Creek Game Lands is located in Pamlico County, on a point of marshlands between the Pamlico River and Pamlico Sound. Goose Creek lies just north of Hobucken, NC.

Acres Impacted: Phase I – 645 ac, Phase II – 1,305 ac
Phase III – 235 ac, Phase IV – 140 ac

Habitat Types: Brackish Emergent Marsh
Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (Widgeon Grass)
