KITTY HAWK, NC – June 21, 2013 – James "Jim" Cerza Jr., of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, was elected to Ducks Unlimited Inc.'s national board of directors during the organization's annual convention held recently in Portland, Ore.

"The leadership of our board of directors ensures we are fulfilling our mission to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl," said DU CEO Dale Hall. "Our board members are not paid for their work; rather they volunteer their time and resources because they feel so strongly about conservation. I welcome each new member and look forward to working with them in the years to come."

Cerza is the owner of Outer Banks Furniture in Nags Head, North Carolina. Jim lives in Kitty Hawk and is affiliated with the Outer Banks DU Chapter. His involvement with DU began in the mid-1970s attending a dinner banquet with a friend in downtown Richmond, Virginia. Within a few years, he began volunteering for DU and working to develop a new chapter in the western part of Richmond. In 1998, Cerza was named Area Chairman of the Year for Virginia.

During his first year as NC State Chairman, Jim was proud to celebrate the successful completion of the seven-year Sound CARE Initiative, raising more than $27 million for conservation projects in North Carolina and the prairie breeding grounds that produce most of their waterfowl.

Jim's volunteer work remains important to him because he believes in DU's mission of conserving wetlands and wildlife habitat for future generations. In fact, in his second year as NC State Chairman he worked with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission on a youth initiative to develop programs aimed at engaging future generations of hunters and DU supporters. With the average age of DU members rising and the number of migratory bird hunters falling, it's vital to instill a strong conservation ethic in today's youth.
