Member Tip
Till Dark
When hunting snow geese, scouting is the most important factor determining success or failure. Many hunters go out in the mid-afternoon, find a field full of geese, and decide to set up there the next morning. However, the geese may clean out the grain on the field before sunset and move on. Consequently, watch geese until they leave the field to roost at dark. In the morning, they will always return to the place where they fed last.

DU Magazine | A Duck's-Eye View
Federal conservation programs are helping DU create healthier landscapes for waterfowl in the Great Lakes region
Waterfowl winging their way across North America have a unique perspective that is hard to image?unless you're a small aircraft pilot. Flying at several hundred?or thousand?feet high, waterfowl can easily identify and evaluate the landscape below as they seek food resources and safe resting areas. Ducks Unlimited biologists keep this perspective in mind as they plan and implement conservation projects for waterfowl, knowing that ducks, geese, and swans need a mix of habitat types in fairly close proximity to meet their biological needs.
