Texas Ducks Unlimited Seeks Sponsor Artist

Texas Ducks Unlimited is seeking an artist to create an unpublished painting for the 24th
annual Texas DU sponsor print. All Texas DU sponsor members receive a copy of the print, and framed copies of the print are offered to DU banquets throughout Texas for use in their fund-raising efforts. As a result, the artist receives state-wide exposure.

The subject of the painting may be wildlife art, sporting art or still life. But it should feature waterfowl in some context. Some of the artists who have provided the Texas DU sponsor print in the past include Herb Booth, who provided the first print in the program in 1984; Terry Burleson, whose work was featured in 1996 and again in 2004; Wade Butler, in both 1995 and 2005; and John L. Carter in 2007.

There are no size restrictions on the art, and any medium is acceptable.

“This program offers a unique opportunity for artists,” said Gus Brown, Texas DU state art chairman. “Not only do we distribute the prints throughout Texas, but we also exchange prints with other states, giving the artist exposure outside of Texas as well as within the state. Several of our previous artists have commented that the Texas DU program really gave their careers a boost.”

All costs for producing the Texas DU sponsor print program are underwritten by First Southwest Company of Dallas. The program generates approximately 4,000 prints, with 200 given to the artist as “artist’s proofs.” In return, the artist must agree to sign and number the 4,000 prints and to all present and future reproduction rights to Texas Ducks Unlimited until June 1, 2009..

Artists interested in submitting their work for consideration should contact Brown at 713-690-9999 or by e-mail at gus@graphtecinc.com.The deadline for submissions is March 28, 2008.

Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most successful wetland conservation organization. Since its founding in 1937, DU has conserved, restored and protected almost 12 million acres of critical wetland habitat. This habitat provides haven for more than 900 documented wildlife species.
