Crown Championship to determine season’s winners
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., June 2, 2007 — On Sunday June 10, the champion of the 2007 Super Retriever Series Crown Championship will walk away with $55,000 in cash and prizes. Included in the top prize is a check for $30,000 and a Mountaintop Custom Kennels dog trailer worth $25,000. The purse is the largest ever given at a retriever competition.
“It took a while to get here, but we are only at the tip of the iceberg. Our corporate sponsors have hung in there and had great success, making this purse possible,” said Justin Tackett, the host and organizer of the Super Retriever Series. “Our TV ratings are strong as ever and this is just a drop in the bucket of what we can look forward to in the future. Our goal is to make retrievers bigger than bass fishing, racing or anything else, because people love dogs!”
The top three winners from each of four Super Retriever Series Qualifiers held around the country (Gervais, Ore.; Union City, Tenn.; Louisburg, NC; Dyersburg, Tenn.) have already secured a spot in the Crown Championship. One qualifying event remains, the Hot Springs Qualifier, beginning June 4-7, 2007 just outside Hot Springs, Ark.
More than 100 dogs and handlers are competing for the last three available spots. Teams from as far away as northern California are entered. Sam, a black Labrador retriever, handled by Richard McDonald is the top-seeded dog in the retriever trial event. Liza a yellow Labrador handled by Scott Greer is seeded second.
“Hot Springs is a great place to bring the family and watch these super canine athletes competing at a world-class level in retriever trials, horizontal leaping and the super vertical jumping competition, you won't want to miss it,” said SRS Director Shannon Nardi.
The season ending Crown Championship will be held in the infield of Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, AR June 9th and 10th, 2007. Admission is free and in addition to the retriever trials, dogs will be competing for the SRS Crown Championship in both the Ducks Unlimited Super Fly and Super V jumping events.

The SRS Crown Championship event will be televised starting on Sunday June 24th on the Versus network. See http://www.versus.com/ for further air times.
With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation organization with almost 12 million acres conserved. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands - nature’s most productive ecosystem - and continues to lose more than 80,000 wetland acres each year.
