MISSOULA, Mont., March 28, 2011 – Ducks Unlimited, along with several national sportsmen-conservationist organizations and Montana hunters and anglers, will speak out against the proposed budget cuts that strike directly at America's tradition of wildlife and habitat conservation in a March 30 teleconference.

Reporters tuning in to the conference will hear from some of the nation's leading sportsmen conservation groups about the proposed budget resolution, which drastically cuts or eliminates several programs that are critical to hunting, fishing and wildlife habitat.

The cuts would affect wetlands conservation to the tune of nearly $2 billion, including the loss of $47 million in funding for North American Wetlands Conservation Act grants. The proposed cuts would eliminate all NAWCA funding.

"The cuts being proposed could imperil waterfowl populations and the future of the waterfowl hunting tradition in America," said DU CEO Dale Hall. "What's being proposed by the House Appropriations Committee will cripple conservation efforts as we know them," Hall said. "Elimination of NAWCA, an 81 percent reduction of acquisition for refuges and seriously reducing many other programs so vital to our mission are things DU strongly opposes."
