In August 2008, DU hosted congressional staffers and representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and other Great Lakes partners and gave them a bus tour of wetland restoration sites located within the Saginaw Bay watershed. The purpose of the tour was to highlight problems, opportunities, and solutions of on-the-ground habitat conservation. DU sponsored the tour, with funding from the Healing Our Waters coalition and Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Attendees visited restoration sites on both public and private lands and in all stages of development from early construction to fully completed projects. All of the visited restoration sites will provide vital habitat to waterfowl and other wildlife.
