Ducks Unlimited supports continued partnership with state
Ann Arbor, Mich. – January 13, 2010 – Ducks Unlimited (DU) supports today’s appointment of Rebecca Humphries to head Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE). Humphries led the state’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which was recently combined with the Department of Environmental Quality by Governor Jennifer Granholm.
“Becky Humphries has been a tremendous asset to Michigan’s conservation community for many years,” said Robert Hoffman, Director of Ducks Unlimited’s Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office. “Her stewardship of our natural resources has been thoughtful and farsighted, and it comes from her deep appreciation for the outdoors. DU looks forward to working with the Director and the new department.”
The mission of the DNRE is to conserve, manage, protect and promote Michigan's environmental, natural resources and related economic interests for current and future generations. This includes implementing an ecosystem-based strategy for resource management, effectively using natural resources in a sustainable manner, and providing for continuous improvement in Michigan's air, water and soils while facilitating and encouraging economic growth.
Humphries headed the Michigan DNR for nearly 6 years before this appointment. Her career with the DNR prior to that gave her experience in conservation real estate, habitat biology, and operations. Her commitment to Michigan’s outstanding natural resources and strong vision make Rebecca Humphries the best person to lead the Michigan department of Natural Resources and Environment.
