Rancho Rio Chico is a 231-acre private duck hunting club (named 7-Mile Club) consisting of seasonal and permanent wetlands, riparian habitat, and wetland-associated uplands. The wetlands are managed primarily to provide habitat for migrating and wintering waterfowl and other waterbirds and waterfowl hunting opportunities. Water in some wetland areas is retained during spring and summer to provide brood-rearing habitat for waterfowl. The property is protected in perpetuity through a conservation easement held by the California Department of Fish and Game. This project will improve 160 acres of habitat, including, 23 acres of palustrine emergent wetlands and 5 acres of wetland-associated uplands, and it will enhance 132 acres of palustrine emergent wetlands.
