I recently purchased a goose flute call and I am having trouble learning how to use it. I am having the hardest time making new notes. If you would leave any tips it would be very helpful. -Thanks

Some may disagree with me but flutes do not have the same capabilities as a short reed goose call will have. While goose flutes are easier to use than a short reed, short reeds will allow you to be much more versatile with your calling.

Just about any short reed call would be a good starting point for you. Get your hands on a few of them and try them out. Some really cheap short reeds have a "plastic" sound when used so try to avoid them. Also learn to adjust and shave reeds so you can get the custom sound you like.

I use a goose flute and always have (tim grounds guides best flute).  It gives a different sound when hunting with a group of guys that blow short reeds.  I can make almost every call they can. I have hunted with guys before that put there short reeds aside and just let me call on the flute. They are great and easy to use.
