Have a home on the eastern shore of VA... property backs up to a small creek that leads out to the Chesapeake.
The Creek is a great place for ducks & geese, but up to this point I've only shot in the fields around the property. I would like to get a boat, that I can use as a blind on the water & edges of the creek.
What's the best kind of boat for this type of hunt? Jon boat? Layout? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

I hunt on the Northern Neck and Middle Penn., and have lived and hunted on the Shore. I would recommend a large (18') jon or 16'-semi vee. When the wind gets up you will want something to handle the rough water and something stable enough to shoot out of, especially with a dog. I used a 14" jon and hunted Saxis marsh and several places out of Accomac and Oyster. 14 was too small with any wind. you didn't mention fishing, but a larger boat will be better if you want to fish the inlets for flounder or trout on the Bay side.
