I am sure everyone has had a hunt that yielded zero birds and zero shots to boot. These are the days that should push us back out to work harder and find the birds. I have had a few days with no birds and or missed shots that has gotten me down. Any new hunter out there I want to tell you that those days and those shots are going to happen. This isn't fishing, the birds aren't contained to one body of water and the one you are on may not be where they are that day. As for missed shots, well that is going to happen no matter how good you are. Be persistent and keep improving your craft. If it were easy it would be boring and I am sure everyone on here can say that it never gets boring!

I've never missed.  Ever.

Kidding.  Except I am 100% so far this year.

Good point though.  I used to get angry when we missed opportunities or went home empty handed.  Now, I'm just glad there's no birds to clean between getting home and taking a nap.

Slow hunts with just one or two opportunities and an empty bag on the way home is always a tough pill to swallow...but we have all been there, and will all be there again...at least I like to tell myself I'm not the only one!

That's why they call it hunting. Those days are going to happen to everyone and nobody hits every duck they shoot at. That's part of hunting and it makes you work harder the next time and to never give up

Shoot straight and often

Excellent post! One of the guys I hunt with drives me nuts with this. Two years ago our lake we hunt was the hot spot. Couldn't load fast enough between flocks dive bombing the decoys. Well, this year and last year was super slow with many days of not even seeing birds in the air. I realize that it's called hunting rather than killing and that some days, you're on the X, some days the birds change their habits. But he's also the kind of guy that if he doesn't shoot a limit, he's not satisfied. Needless to say, halfway through the season I dropped him as a hunting partner.

This is a great Topic.  Just yesterday a friend and I went hunting and loaded up with 4 Mallards, 1 Lesser-Scaup, 1 Bufflehead, and 1 Goose. All in 4 hours at the blind. Group after group were flying by checking out the spread.   Today, had two groups fly by with a few prayer shots, resulting in nothing. 4 hours again.  You never know when that one day is going to happen where it's raining ducks they say. But you'll never experience it on the couch. That's for sure. (When I say groups of ducks, I'm talking 3-7) haha Jersey doesn't get those massive groups like I've seen flying in other states.
