I recently acquired a used 870 that works great except it doesn't have a plug.  Can I buy an aftermarket plug or make one.  I had an older shotgun with a wooden dowel plug that was factory. Does anyone have a technique for making a plug so I can hunt with this gun legally.  Thanks.

Thanks for the info, I looked at cabelas and they are really cheap.  The only problem is it doesn't have that little plastic disc with the teeth on it like my other 870 has.  All it has is the spring and a sheet metal disc on top with three tabs on it.

Ya, it doesn't have one.  I just traded for the gun tonight, I traded it for a NEF single shot 20ga. and a box of shells.  I cut a shell in half and dumped out the powder and shot and shot just the primer off in my garage. Works great just no plug so I can't hunt with it.

My gun does not have that either...I lost it a long time ago.  My 870 kept jamming up and I would have to unscrew the cap to fix it.  One day everything shot out on me when I unscrewed the cap.  It happened to me on the river and I lost everything to the water except for the plug, spring, and metal screw on cap.  My gun has not jammed ever since this happened.  Going on 10 years now with just the plug, spring, and cap with no jamming.

i like to take old aluminum arrows and cut them to the right length. i have many arrows around, and i find they fit good. but the nice thing about the store bought ones is they don't move around in there.

call lanyard in avatar is for sale. hand made. can have them made to custom size. $20 shipped.
