What do you guys do for insulating your truck kennels over the winter?

I don't have a fancy dog box or anything, just a basic plastic crate in the back of a covered truck, so there's not much insulation to begin with. I know that plenty companies make the covers, but I'm curious if there are other options. I've thought about putting down a few inches of hay so the pup can make a nest; good idea, bad idea, something else?

Any help is great. Thanks gentlemen.

I have a topper on my truck and use a wire mesh crate. Put a piece of old carpeting or two down in the bottom over the metal tray (provided not a chewer) and cover the crate with a wool blanket. Just make sure pup is as dry as possible before putting them in. He's ridden back there when its been -15°F with no problems. He has it nice and toasty in no time.

Yeah Im with mugger on this one. I dont have a capper on my truck I just wrap my plastic kennel in an old army wool blanket and have another inside the kennel. No issues with warmth just all my damn strapping and bungies are a pain. With a cap on yours you wouldnt have to do all that craziness. Hoping to get a cap this year for the back, if I find a good enough deal.

The hay may sound like a good idea, but any moisture in it and the hay may start to mold on ya. Thats no good to have happen.
