Any cowboy action shooters out there? I'm interested in purchasing a rifle and pistol chambered in the same caliber. I don't have any intrest in playing dress up to shoot. I'm just looking to keep the ammo universal. All the standard pistol rounds are available just about everywhere and the larger calibers are perfect for most big game. Anybody got any favorite rifles/ pistols/ caliber combos? If so, what do like and why?

I have a big gun collection and have a few cowboy guns. 3 are colt alamo edition 22 and 45s with consecutive serial numbers. The other is a colt 22. The levers I have are winchester model 94 in 25-20, 45-70, and 30-30. The problem with these is that the first two I mentioned the shells are only reloads and well over $50. Thats all I know...

I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled upon it.  My dad and brother are members of S.A.S.S. which does the cowboy shooting.  They shoot a 38 special out of the pistol and rifle.  My dad reloads all of the ammo so I do not know what his price is per bullet.  The pistols they shoot can handle up to a .357.  I went with them once and shot, and it is really fun to do.
