The Area Chairman of the Year Award is presented each year under a mandate from DU's national headquarters. The chapter must be 10/30 qualified for all events and hold multiple events.
Every year we encourage chapters to set goals for their event. This chairmen set goals early for strong growth in all of the key areas. Joey Wright of Tennessee's Clarksville Chapter had a goal of 10 new committee members; he nailed that goal and then some.
When told that it couldn't be done, or that bad economic times were going got stifle any chance of a good banquet, Wright refused to be denied and became even more determined to make those goals a reality.
Reality ended up being four events with a 56-percent dollar increase, a 15-percent membership increase and a net/net gross of 70 percent. Wright has made community awareness of DU's mission one of his top priorities as chairman.
Wright will be the first to tell you he doesn't deserve this award because the committee did all the work. He has what is known as the 3 Cs of leadership: Character, competence and connection to his volunteer team.
Ladies and gentleman, a leader for this organization that is making a huge difference for the ducks... This year's area chairman of the year, Joey Wright of the Clarksville Chapter.
