All waterfowl hunters and admirers welcome to attend

Indianapolis, Ind., April 9, 2008 – Indiana Ducks Unlimited’s state convention will take place on April 18 and 19. Volunteers, staff and conservation partners will gather at the Holiday Inn Pyramids in Indianapolis to celebrate “Full Halls - Full Skies” and the state’s 2007 accomplishments. More than 20,000 acres of wetlands and associated habitats have been conserved in Indiana to date, and the state boasts 10,500 members. Events will include educational seminars, outdoor vendors, raffles and auctions.

Canine celebrity Drake the Ducks Unlimited (DU) Dog will attend on Friday, along with handler Mike Stewart of Rosewood Kennels. Stewart will host a special gun dog training session Friday afternoon. Ducks Unlimited staff will unveil the 2008 state conservation report, including highlights of conservation accomplishments in Indiana and the critical Prairie Pothole Region of North America.

A special highlight will be a visit from Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year, Tony Padgett, of Noblesville, Ind. Tony recently moved to Indiana and was chosen as the international conservation organization’s top artist for 2008. He will have paintings and prints on display and be available throughout the convention to visit with wildlife art aficionados.

Approximately 200 people are expected to attend and everyone interested in wetlands, waterfowl and waterfowling is welcome.

“The DU family is a special community of people,” said State Chair Frank Wolka Jr., of Vallonia, Ind. “We’re volunteers and members from all walks of life and places in Indiana, but we all share a passion for wetlands, waterfowl and our waterfowling heritage. We work and play together to raise the dollars necessary to conserve and restore wetlands for ourselves, hundreds of wildlife species that use these habitats and future generations. We celebrate each other and our conservation work and prepare for another great year during our convention, and everyone is welcome.”

Interested attendees can contact Jean Prough or register online at http://www.ducks.org/states/41/events/event13475.html.
