Governor
sends letter to DU members to gain support against Navy landing fieldRALEIGH, N.C., March
13, 2007 - Gov. Mike Easley sent a letter to his fellow hunters,
including members of Ducks Unlimited, urging them to appeal to members of
Congress to withhold funding for the U.S. Navy’s proposal to put an outlying
landing field in Eastern North Carolina. The site is near one of the most
important waterfowl reserves in the Atlantic Flyway near the
Beaufort-Washington county line.

With more than a million
supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland
and waterfowl conservation organization with almost 12 million acres conserved.
The United States
alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands - nature’s most
productive ecosystem - and continues to lose more than 80,000 wetland acres
each year.
