The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has announced a new standard for mapping wetlands in the United States, streamlining the service Ducks Unlimited has been using to effectively identify the most critical wetlands for waterfowl.
"As one of the many users of the National Wetlands Inventory, DU is encouraged to learn that mapping standards have been adopted for wetlands," said Robb Macleod, GIS manager at Ducks Unlimited's Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office in Ann Arbor, Mich. "As many different organizations embark on wetland mapping projects throughout the United States, this new standard will be critical. It will impact our future planning efforts as we look at regional landscapes for wetlands and waterfowl."
Ducks Unlimited and the FWS work together on many different wetland and waterfowl habitat programs, including the North American Wetlands Conservation Act.
