Ducks Unlimited Welcomes New Director of Communications
Memphis, TN, September 22, 2004 – Ducks Unlimited is pleased to welcome Gregg Patterson, from Little Rock, Arkansas, as its new Director of Communications. Patterson, whose official start date was September 20th, joins DU’s professional team with years of public relations, broadcasting, writing, and editing experience in the outdoor arena.
“Gregg is a proven achiever in outdoors communications,” said Don Young, DU’s Executive Vice President. “His extensive knowledge of wetlands, waterfowl, and conservation, coupled with his years of experience and success in public relations make him the ideal candidate for the job. We’re thrilled to have Gregg aboard.”
Patterson comes to DU from Winrock International where for nearly four years he directed all of Winrock's U.S.-based conservation, watershed, and environmental credits efforts. For twenty years, Gregg has also run a successful outdoors media business. He has published over 350 magazine articles for major outdoors and environmental magazines. And, from 1995 through 2001, he hosted The Patterson Report, an environmental editorial television spot on "ESPN Outdoors." In 2003, Patterson received the Outdoor Writer's Association of America's highest award for lifetime achievement in conservation communications - the Jade of Chiefs award. Gregg's career also includes time with Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. He holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a master's in Forestry from the University of Missouri.
With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation group. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands – nature’s most productive ecosystems – and continues to lose more than 100,000 wetland acres every year.
