Ducks Unlimited issued the following statement regarding former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, who died in a plane crash Monday night near Dillingham, Alaska:
“Ducks Unlimited is deeply saddened by the death of former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens,” said DU CEO Dale Hall. “I have known Senator Stevens and his family for a long time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the senator’s family, along with the families of the others killed in the plane crash. Senator Stevens’ death is a huge loss for the conservation community,” Hall said.
"As a member of the Senate, Ted Stevens consistently worked to provide funding for programs to conserve migratory bird habitat across our continent. His leadership on behalf of the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) was well known by our leaders. As a member of the appropriations committee, Senator Stevens worked with DU to provide funding for the priorities identified in the North American Waterfowl Management Plan,” Hall said.
Stevens was 86, and spent 40 years representing Alaska in the U.S. Senate.
