QUINCY, Ill., Oct. 6, 2010 - Ducks Unlimited has recognized Illinois State Sen. John Sullivan for his leadership and support in passing a bill to establish a specialty DU license plate this past legislative session.
The new license plate, which DU expects to be released sometime in 2011, will include DU's signature duck head logo and provide the wetland and waterfowl conservation organization with $25 for every license plate sold. Dr. Rex Schulz, DU regional vice president, presented Sen. Sullivan with a special decoy in appreciation for his sponsorship of the legislation at the annual DU fundraising banquet held last night in Quincy, Ill.
"I would like to personally thank Sen. Sullivan for the work that he is doing on behalf of the DU members in his district and for sportsmen and conservationists across Illinois," Schulz remarked. "A specialty license plate for DU has the potential of raising more than a million dollars for Illinois projects over time. DU members have John Sullivan to thank for laying the groundwork that should result in a great conservation legacy for Illinois."
According to DU, proceeds from the specialty license plate will go toward funding DU projects and educational efforts in Illinois. Also, since this is an altogether different license plate, DU members and supporters will have an opportunity to request all new vanity plates and numbers. More information about the plate, including an application form, is available at http://www.ducks.org/illinois/illinois-content/illinois-ducks-unlimited-license-plate.
