AMES, Iowa, Nov. 27, 2007 - Eric Lindstrom is Ducks Unlimited’s new regional biologist for Iowa. With funding from the McKnight Foundation, Lindstrom will be the first biologist to be physically stationed in Iowa. Living in Iowa will enable him to work more closely with DU’s dedicated partners and landowners to improve waterfowl habitat and water quality in the state’s large marshes and shallow lakes.
“It is an esteemed honor and privilege to be part of DU’s Living Lakes Initiative team and Iowa’s first in-state regional biologist,” Lindstrom said. “I look forward to working with our conservation partners and private landowners to help preserve and protect Iowa’s vital natural resources.”
The Living Lakes Initiative is restoring and protecting shallow lakes and their watersheds to provide habitat for waterfowl as they journey to the continent’s nesting and wintering grounds.
Lindstrom has a master’s degree in waterfowl ecology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a bachelor’s degree in wildlife and fisheries sciences from South Dakota State University. He gained extensive experience working for DU to protect and restore wintering waterfowl habitat along the Texas Gulf Coast.
Eric and his wife, Kristin, have relocated to Ames, Iowa.
The McKnight Foundation’s environmental program focuses on improving water quality to reduce pollution, conserving land and restoring wetlands and strengthening citizen advocacy in the 10 state corridor from Minnesota to Louisiana. More information about the McKnight Foundation can be found on their website at www.mcknight.org.
With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation organization with almost 12 million acres conserved. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands - nature’s most productive ecosystem - and continues to lose more than 80,000 wetland acres each year.
