MEMPHIS, Tenn. – July 31, 2012 – The strong leadership of Ducks Unlimited de Mexico (DUMAC) was highlighted at a recent meeting of its board of directors as the organization upgraded the title of Eduardo Carrera, staff director of DUMAC, to national executive director and chief executive officer.

Based in Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo Leon, DUMAC is the sister organization to Ducks Unlimited Inc. charged with carrying out waterfowl and wetland habitat conservation work in Mexico, a prime wintering destination for many North American waterfowl such as blue-winged teal, pintails and Pacific black brant. DUMAC was established in 1974, and working with Ducks Unlimited Inc. and Ducks Unlimited Canada, plays a key role in DU's continent-wide approach to conservation of a waterfowl resource that ranges from Alaska's North Slope and the Arctic Sea to the southern tip of Mexico and beyond.

"Eduardo Carrera's leadership has helped DUMAC grow into an internationally recognized leader of wetlands and waterfowl conservation in Mexico," said John Tomke, president of DUMAC's board of directors. "With a very lean staff, Carrera and DUMAC are doing amazing things, including generating foundational science, such as an inventory and classification of wetland habitats throughout the country, and monitoring landscape change in key areas for waterfowl. Armed with this kind of data, DUMAC then implements on-the-ground conservation projects such as pioneering mangrove restoration demonstration projects that are providing a model for governmental and non-governmental organizations."

Rogers Hoyt Jr., DUMAC vice president, praised Carrera, saying, "The board could not be more proud of Eduardo and what he has done and continues to do in building the effectiveness and reputation of DUMAC. The board was unanimous and enthusiastic in its reaffirmation of his leadership with the upgrading of his title to national executive director and chief executive officer."

"I am happy to know that the board is pleased with DUMAC's work, and am personally honored to receive this recognition," Carrera said when he was notified of his title change. "This expression of confidence is not just rewarding to me, however; it is a gratifying recognition of the hard work of DUMAC's small, but very competent and productive, staff."

Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, DU is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, with special events, projects and promotions across the continent. Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
