DES MOINES, IA, Feb. 20, 2007 – At its annual Iowa state convention, Ducks Unlimited (DU) recognized Tammi Kircher with a conservation achievement award for her commitment to improve Iowa’s wetland and waterfowl resources.
Tammi Kircher, from Keokuk, was selected as the recipient of the 2007 award in recognition of her exemplary work representing DU on the Iowa Natural Resources Sustainable Funding Advisory Committee. Governor Vilsack appointed Kircher in August 2006 to serve on the committee with 17 other individuals from other organizations such as Farmers Union and The Nature Conservancy.
“Tammi did a tremendous job representing the interests of wetlands and waterfowl conservation on the diverse committee,” said Ryan Heiniger, director of conservation programs for DU. “She really poured her heart and soul into this endeavor because she understood the significance of this opportunity and how it could accelerate habitat conservation for the benefit of current and future generations.”
As part of the committee, Kircher worked diligently during the last seven months to develop a comprehensive report for the Governor and Legislature. The report outlined what other states have done to provide sustainable funding for conservation, identified the amount of revenue needed and how it would be invested, and Iowa citizens’ willingness to pay for new conservation funding. The committee identified $150 million of new funding for wildlife habitat, soil and water conservation, parks and trails and other related uses.
“I appreciate the opportunity to be a part this important work to protect and enhance Iowa’s natural resources,” Kircher said.

With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation organization.
