MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jan. 17, 2012 – Seventy-five years ago this month, Ducks Unlimited was founded by four sportsmen on a mission to save North America's waterfowl populations. The year was 1937, and the odds were against them. Their plan: restore waterfowl by restoring water to prairie wetlands (despite one of the worst droughts in history), and pay for it with donated dollars (during the Great Depression).

It worked. Today, Ducks Unlimited is the largest, most effective wetlands and waterfowl conservation group in the world. To honor DU's 75th anniversary, Winchester Ammunition, a long-time partner of Ducks Unlimited, will present DU with its "Partners in Conservation Award" at Winchester's SHOT Show booth (#13329) on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 10:00 a.m.

In addition, Friday, Jan. 20 will be Ducks Unlimited Day at the Winchester Ammunition booth. Attendees are encouraged to drop by and enter to win five cases of Winchester® Blind Side™ shotshells and a limited-edition Ducks Unlimited 75th Anniversary Art Print. The prize drawing will be held Friday at 5:00 p.m.

"I can't think of a better way to mark this milestone than with the people and partners who made it possible," said Dale Hall, CEO of Ducks Unlimited. "America's sportsmen and women and the industries they support have always been—and continue to be—the conservation leaders of North America. Every year, leaders from the shooting, hunting and outdoor industries come together at SHOT Show, and we're proud to celebrate DU's 75th anniversary with those friends and partners this year."

Ducks Unlimited works with public and private partners to maximize its conservation impact. For 25 years, Winchester Ammunition has been DU's partner in conservation.

"Winchester is a recognized leader in supporting our hunting heritage and the conservation of wildlife habitat, and we are proud to honor Ducks Unlimited on their 75th anniversary as one of their premier partners," said Brett Flaugher, Winchester Ammunition vice president of sales and marketing. "Our support has been instrumental in helping Ducks Unlimited to develop successful wetland and waterfowl conservation programs, and we are encouraged by their leadership and mission."

Ducks Unlimited's 75th anniversary celebration will continue throughout the year with special events, merchandise, projects and promotions across the continent. DU recently released its 75th anniversary book, The Ducks Unlimited Story by Michael Furtman. This 208-page coffee-table book chronicles DU's first 75 years with never-before-seen photos and documents from the DU archives. Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
