Drake the DU Dog Makes History as U.S. Gundog Team Wins International Competition
Drake the DU Dog recently returned from Northern Ireland, where he and the U.S. Gundog Team made history by becoming the first team from the United States to win the prestigious P&O Irish Sea International Gundog Challenge. The team also won the Atlantic Cup International Team Competition.
The competition took place May 29th, on the grounds of Moira Demesne in Northern Ireland. Just four days prior to the event, Drake received the top US Dog Award in the Eukanuba Interclub Challenge.
"Throughout the trip, Drake and the rest of the team performed beautifully," said Mike Stewart, Drake's trainer and owner of Wildrose Kennels. "This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it was made even more special with all the "firsts." Not only did we place first in several events, we made history by being the first U.S. Team to do so, and that's truly an honor."
The winning team consisted of Mike Stewart and Drake the DU Dog, Bill Gibson of West Point, Mississippi, and his dog Jet, Marty Newport of Hernando, Mississippi, handling Bob, a black Labrador retriever, and Boss, an AKC Senior Hunter.

The U.S. Gundog Team returned from their trip in early June with a suitcase full of trophies and a story for each one. "It was an experience I'll never forget," said Stewart.
