The Delta Gun Club is located on the Lower Jones Tract, just west of Stockton. The club has been in existence since the 1940s and has experienced several rounds of flooding due to levee breaches. The club is approximately 750 acres. Lower Jones Tract is typical of many Delta islands as it lies substantially below sea level. The project will improve wetlands in a 134-acre area that can potentially be divided into three managed wetland units. The goals for this project are to 1) increase the amount and quality of available waterfowl habitat, and 2) increase the number of waterfowl using the property throughout the year, particularly during the winter. This goals for this project are compatible with the second component of the Delta Working Landscapes project by identifying agricultural fields that are suitable for restoration into wetland habitats. Additional features of the wetland could include swales and potholes, tree and habitat buffer strips on selected unit edges for cover and visual screens, agricultural food plots, moist-soil wetland vegetation plots, and permanent wetland areas.
