Dow Chemical makes generous donations in Wisconsin
Ann Arbor, Mich. - December 8, 2008 - Dow Chemical continued its support of Ducks Unlimited with generous donations over the past two years. Their Wisconsin donation is part of DU’s national partnership with CropLife America, a trade association representing manufacturers and distributors of plant science solutions for agriculture and pest management in the U.S. Dow is a member of CropLife America and understands the value of their continued support to waterfowl conservation in Wisconsin.
Dow recently made donations of herbicide to DU for several important project sites in DU’s Northwestern Wisconsin priority area. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) received 20 gallons each of Garlon 3A and Garlon 4 to be applied on the Crex Meadows and Fish Lake State Wildlife Areas in Burnett County. The DNR Baldwin Service Center also received 20 gallons of Garlon 4 to be applied on WDNR properties and private lands across the northwest Wisconsin landscape. In addition, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) St. Croix Wetland Management District will apply 25 gallons each of Milestone and Garlon 4, and 50 gallons of Garlon 3A on existing USFWS waterfowl production areas. All of the herbicides will help manage shrubs and woody vegetation on hundreds of acres of existing grassland waterfowl nesting habitat, and to prepare land for additional native prairie establishment.
With more than a million supporters, Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest and most effective wetland and waterfowl conservation organization with almost 12 million acres conserved. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands - nature’s most productive ecosystem - and continues to lose more than 80,000 wetland acres each year.
