To commemorate the centennial of the 1908 Conference on the Conservation of Natural Resources, and as part of the implementation of last year's executive order on the "Facilitation of Hunting Heritage and Wildlife Conservation," President George W. Bush has called a White House Conference on North American Wildlife Policy. The conference will begin Oct. 1 in Reno, Nevada and approximately 1000 attendees from the conservation and business communities are expected to attend.

Like the original conference, which was called by President Theodore Roosevelt, the focus of the White House Conference will be to address the needs of waterfowl and wildlife resources in the new century. Near the top of the list of objectives is to address options and opportunities to expand and increase hunter involvement and habitat conservation for hunting on public lands. DU staff members have been participating in various planning sessions to shape the discussion at the conference, and will be meeting with people and groups during the conference to find solutions to the issues facing waterfowl and waterfowl hunters today.
