MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jan. 19, 2012 – Bill D'Alonzo, Ducks Unlimited volunteer and member of DU's board of directors, was named the 2012 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year yesterday at the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show in Las Vegas. D'Alonzo, of Greenville, Del., has designated DU as the recipient of the $50,000 National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant accompanying the award, and has asked that this gift be split between the Chesapeake-Delaware Bay conservation area and the Boreal Forest Initiative, in support of DU's partnership with the Pew Charitable Trust.

The annual Budweiser Conservationist of the Year program recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the outdoors and conservation. The winner selects a conservation organization to receive a $50,000 grant from Budweiser and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

"Since 1995, the Budweiser Outdoors program has celebrated and supported the passion, dedication and leadership of conservationists across the country," said Bob Fishbeck, senior manager for the Budweiser brands. "We all have a responsibility to help protect our natural resources and the work being done by Bill and other wildlife advocates is an inspiration for all of us to follow."

D'Alonzo is president and CEO of Friess Associates, manager of the Brandywine Funds and institutional portfolios for leading pension plans, foundations and endowments. He's been a Ducks Unlimited volunteer and supporter for more than 20 years and has served on DU's development committee, finance committee and investment sub-committee. He also serves on the board of directors for DU's Wetlands America Trust and DU's national board of directors.

"Ducks Unlimited is proud to celebrate this win alongside Bill," said DU CEO Dale Hall. "He is a great representative of our organization and very deserving of this honor."

DU's vast network of volunteers, staff and supporters helped vote D'Alonzo toward his win during the online and mail voting period, which ended Jan. 6.

"We'd like to thank all the DU supporters who took the time to cast their votes for Bill in this year's contest," said Hall. "The award funds will help further DU's conservation mission in 2012, and we couldn't have secured them without their help!"

Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
