2nd Annual Volunteer Day Rain did not dampen the spirits or enthusiasm as SD Ducks Unlimited Volunteers and family members participated in the 2nd Annual Volunteer Day on the Prairie which was held Saturday August 14th at the Goebel Ranch in McPherson Co. Participants watched DU conservation in action in the heart of the North American Duck Factory! Not only did they observe duck banding but participated in banding and helped release ducks. Mother Nature has provided a surplus of moisture and the Duck Factory is in full production mode. DU Volunteers found out why their efforts are so important to the future of our cherished Waterfowling Heritage. The day began with an orientation and overview of the Goebel Ranch and the importance of research being conducted by Randy Meidinger and his DU staff. Everyone departed the ranch headquarters to tour this jewel of the prairie. The highlight of the morning was the opportunity to observe and assist DU technicians band a mixed bag of ducks.
A lunch and the opportunity to socialize concluded the morning with fellow DU volunteers from across the state.
After lunch a SDDU State Council meeting was held in the quonset at Goebel Ranch headquarters. The Goebel Ranch is located 11 miles north (turn at 4th St /358th Ave and highway 12) and 6 miles west (on 123 st.) of Ipswich. For more information about Goebel Ranch CLICK HERE
