On April 12, 2008 there will be a new and exciting event for the Greenwings to participate in that day at Owens Station in Greenwood, Delaware. Our first working bird decoy competition .The Greenwing Event has been a highly successful day of outdoor fun and wetlands conservation directed at educating the children that are the future of preserving and protecting the natural resources not only here in Delaware but the North American Continent. With great hope, this competition will add to the fun and excitement of the day.
I would encourage every carver here in Delaware to teach and assist at least one child to carve a working decoy for this contest. With the participation of our local carvers, the children will experience the thrill of seeing their decoy take shape and will be very proud of their finished decoy. We can all imagine the thrill of a child seeing a ribbon on their decoy. That child will remember that feeling forever. I would ask that any carver that is involved in working with a child or wishes to be involved in this event to call me directly at 302.429.2727, or contact me via e mail at Louis.Caputo@pnc.com
A panel of 3 experienced carvers will judge all decoys. The decision of this panel will be final on all entries.
The contest is for working decoys only.
Puddle Ducks, Diver Ducks, Geese and Confidence Decoys will be the acceptable decoys for this competition.
The following entry categories have been established and carvers will be eligible to participate as follows:
Ribbons will be awarded to all winners.
SPONSORSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP PUT THIS COMPETITION ON FOR THE GREENWINGS
I know we will get the support of the carving community as well as a host of others to make this new addition to the Greenwing Day a success for the children. Don’t forget to come out on April 12th to see all of the decoys on display.
The children will appreciate it!!
