Ducks Unlimited is working with the Los Patos Bravos Duck Club to improve wetland management and habitat diversity by removing useless levees, improving existing levees, and constructing a new water delivery ditch. Failing water control structures will be replaced with new structures for maximum water conveyance capabilities. This will increase the amount of shallow water emergent habitat while allowing club owners the ability to conserve water while maximizing the amount of habitat for waterfowl.
The area has been managed for over 50 years to provide a wide variety of habitats for wetland-dependant wildlife such as shorebirds, wading birds, waterfowl, and non-migratory wildlife. Shorebirds, wading birds, and waterfowl will benefit from improved wetland habitats proposed through this project. Neotropical migrants and non-migratory wildlife also will benefit from this wetland restoration and enhancement. A management plan will be written by DU to ensure continued optimal habitat management practices.
