Ducks Unlimited's Verona Wetlands Complex is now providing even more habitat for waterfowl. DU has recently completed another wetland restoration project on Verona, DU's flagship conservation effort in the Rainwater Basin, one of the most important habitats in the Central Flyway.

This latest project included the restoration of several wetlands on the Kramer and Dietz tracts. Berms were constructed, water control structures installed and sediment removed from within the former wetlands. Two wells have been drilled and a water delivery system installed that will provide an additional source of water to manage the restored wetlands on the Dietz tract. The previously farmed upland areas have been restored to native prairie species.

Restored wetlands will provide both foraging and roosting habitat to thousands of waterfowl, particularly during migration periods. Many other species of wildlife, including ring-necked pheasants, white-tailed deer, prairie chickens and a variety of grassland-nesting songbirds, will also benefit from the restoration.

DU acquired both properties four years ago as additions to the Verona Complex.
