CLAY CENTER, Neb. – May 29, 2012 – Ducks Unlimited is hosting a day of fun and learning for youth and adults at the Verona Complex
Open House on June 9. Visitors can hear about waterfowl habitat management, dig in the mud for duck food, ride in the "Big Red" tractor, hunt for hidden items with Global Positioning System (GPS) units and test their shooting skills, among other activities.
"The open house is an opportunity for folks to have a hands-on experience with some of the tools we use to do conservation work in Nebraska
," said Steve Donovan, DU manager of conservation programs.
Engineers and biologists will explain the importance of wetlands and wild places for people and animals.
A dedication ceremony for local DU Legacy Greenwing
members will also take place at 1 p.m.
The Verona Complex, near Clay Center, is an excellent example of healthy Rainwater Basin
waterfowl habitat. The Rainwater Basin hosts millions of migrating waterfowl and other birds each spring and fall.
Time: Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Directions: Look for signs directing visitors to the Verona Complex. From Clay Center, go 3 miles east on highway 41, 2 miles north on CR Q and ¾ mile east on CR 315.
From the north, take I-80 to exit 332, go south on Highway 14 for 16 miles, cross Highway 6, continue 2 miles south and turn east on CR 315 for ¾ mile.
