Last fall, Ducks Unlimited presented the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Commission (MDWFP) with an award recognizing $1 million in state grant contributions made by the commission to DU for waterfowl habitat enhancement on the Canadian prairies. MDWFP annually allocates a portion of Mississippi waterfowl stamp funds for important wetland and nesting habitat conservation work on the waterfowl breeding grounds of southern Canada. Funds are directed toward areas known to produce high proportions of ducks that migrate to Mississippi each winter. This year, MDWFP awarded DU $100,000 for conservation work in Saskatchewan.
