On September 9, a dedication took place at Shiawassee River State Game Area (SGA) to commemorate the partnership between DU, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, North American Wetlands Conservation Council, Shiawassee Flats Citizens and Hunters Association, and Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network, which led to the restoration and enhancement of five wetlands totaling 342 acres at the SGA. These projects were designed and delivered by DU and include Marsh Creek, Wolf Creek, McClure, Zone 29, and the Federal Marsh Unit, which now provide excellent brood-rearing and migration habitat for waterfowl, shore and wading birds and other wildlife. Thirty-six DU major donors who contributed funds in support of Michigan conservation via the Michigan PRIDE program were personally recognized on a bronze plaque that was unveiled at the dedication. In addition, 229 individuals who contributed $100 each to the “Grey Goose Society” were personally recognized on a sign, which was placed next to the bronze plaque.
