Great Time at the 2014 State Convention

The 2014 Michigan Ducks Unlimited State Convention was held August 1st and 2nd at the Best Western Sterling Inn and Waterpark, Sterling Heights, Michigan. Our State Convention Committee; Diana Anderson, Carolyn Stahl, Dave Perry and Rod Larson did a terrific job organizing the event.
The convention started on Friday with registration, and the Hospitality Room was opened. It was a great opportunity to gather and meet other DU members from around the state. The entries for the Art Contest were displayed, and the vender’s area was open to visits.
Friday afternoon the State Council and the State Committee meetings were held. We were honored to have Ducks Unlimited President, George Dunklin join us there.
The hospitality and fun continued into the evening with the “Duck Camp” dinner. Pat Doran, from Monroe, won as the best Duck Camper (male). Dave Perry, from Monroe, presided as MC and made sure that fun and laughter, along with raffles and prizes, continued through the event.
Saturday morning, after a continental breakfast, Break-Out Sessions (mini presentations) were held. Sessions included generating revenue with event games, recruiting new members, and more. Dave Steinbach, State Chair Elect, gave a very popular session on favorite morning cocktails!
It was fun time on Saturday afternoon! In addition to the water park at the hotel, there were many group activities planned including: golf, shooting, painting, and shopping and zoo trips. Some attendees used the time to just kick-back and relax; resting and enjoying the company of new and old friends.
Saturday evening brought dinner, the State Chairman Awards, and an auction and the announcement of the winner of the art contest. Dave Perry once again hosted and acted as MC for the event.
Kathy Krupa, the state Art Chair, announced the winner of the Art Contest. The winner is Jeffrey Hoff from North Dakota. He is officially our 2015 artist with his beautiful painting of Canvasback ducks.
The State Chairman Award presentations were awesome! So many people worked hard to make the Mission of Ducks Unlimited a success. It was inspiring to hear of their accomplishments. Click here

The Greenwings weren’t left out either. They had their own pizza party and movie night. Plenty of games and fun for kids of all ages.
Sunday, Aug. 3rd, the convention was over, but not the fun! There was a group outing to Comerica Park for lunch and a Detroit Tiger baseball game. It was an outstanding end to a great state convention.
