MEMPHIS, Tenn. – July 16, 2013 – James Konkel, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, was elected to Ducks Unlimited Inc.'s national board of directors during the organization's annual convention held recently in Portland, Ore.
"The leadership of our board of directors ensures we are fulfilling our mission to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl," said DU CEO Dale Hall. "Our board members are not paid for their work; rather they volunteer their time and resources because they feel so strongly about conservation. I welcome each new member and look forward to working with them in the years to come."
Konkel also supports the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Portland, Maine. Married to Sue, he enjoys hunting and fishing, and his work with Ducks Unlimited has the facilitated his participation in both hobbies. Konkel has served on the DU Inc. board before, and also serves on the board of Ducks Unlimited Canada.
"It is both a pleasure and honor to once again be a member of the board of directors of Ducks Unlimited," Konkel said. "This organization, the leader in wetlands conservation, is and has been near and dear to me for over 30 years. To be able to give back some of my time on both sides of the border, from helping guide a local committee, to contributing to the boreal forest, to serving as chair of our national shoot committee – we are all in it for the waterfowl we enjoy."
