Purpose: To restore 600 acres of wetlands habitat on Westvaco WMA through construction of 18,400 linear feet of levee, installation of 7 full-round water control structures, and construction of a new well. The objective was to provide intensive management capabilities on 600 acres of agricultural land, bottomland hardwoods, and moist-soil habitats. Heaviest waterfowl use occurs during late winter and early spring. The area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to provide quality wintering habitat for waterfowl.
Location: The project is located on Westvaco WMA in Carlisle County approximately 3 miles north of Columbus, KY.
