Purpose: To enhance 25 acres moist-soil wetlands and flooded agricultural crops on Birdsville Island through construction of a small levee and installation of stop-log structures. Flooding regimes are dependent on winter precipitation and backwater events from the Ohio River. Birdsville Island serves as a refuge and receives extensive use by a variety of waterfowl during fall migration and winter. The area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to provide quality wintering habitat for waterfowl.

Location: The project is located on Birdsville Island in Livingston County approximately 2 miles upstream from Smithland Lock and Dam, KY.
