Purpose: To restore 270 acres of moist-soil wetlands on Obion WMA through construction of levees and installation of several water control structures on the Schaaf and Mathis tracts. The objective was to provide intensive management capabilities on moist-soil habitats. The impoundments will benefit a variety of waterfowl by providing shallow water habitat adjacent to the Mississippi River. Mallards, black ducks, and wood ducks benefit the most from this project. The area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to provide quality wintering habitat for waterfowl and additional hunting opportunities for the public.
Location: The projects are located on the Schaaf Tract (Fulton County) and Mathis Tract (Carlisle County) along Obion Creek.
