CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
Fort Collins, Colorado


Position Summary: Ducks Unlimited, Inc. a national conservation organization, is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Construction Manager in the Fort Collins, Colorado field office. The position will be responsible for work in both Colorado and Wyoming. One of the rewards of this challenging position is spending time in the great outdoors of both of these beautiful states. Ducks Unlimited is seeking an individual with a strong work ethic and a commitment to wetlands conservation.



Duty Station: This individual will be stationed at the field office located in Fort Collins, CO. Equipment and vehicle use will be provided. Initial orientation and training will take place at the Great Plains Regional Office in Bismarck, North Dakota and on-site in Colorado.



Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Construction Manager is responsible for the delivery of wetland restoration and enhancement projects within the Initiative areas of Colorado and Wyoming. The scope of the projects vary but often require detailed topographic surveys, construction staking, contractor oversight and management, tracking of payments, and completion of as-built drawings. In addition the construction manager is expected to perform drafting work outside of construction season.


Specific duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to:


1. Operate from and maintain a remote field office, including maintenance of all DU supplied equipment.


2. Completion of detailed topographic surveys using Trimble GPS. Some of this work will require extensive time in wet areas under various weather conditions. Work with fellow employees to develop and ensure accuracy of digital terrain models.


3. Construction management of projects from start to finish. This includes staking, volume calculations, contractor management and oversight, on-site inspections, completion of daily progress reports, tracking of payments and meetings with partners to ensure satisfactory completion.


4. Work to complete projects in a timely manner as well as within budget constraints.


5. Assist other Colorado/Wyoming staff with the development and implementation of programs in the Initiative areas.


6. Communicate with Regional Engineer and other DU staff on project issues to ensure aspects of grant agreements and cooperators specifications are being met.



Qualifications: The preferred candidate should have the following attributes:


1) Self motivation. A large percentage of the time the employee will operate alone and with little outside contact or supervision.


2) Experience and Education.


a. Four (4) year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering or the Geotechnical Sciences, or


b. Two (2) year Civil Engineering Technician degree and 2 years of construction management, engineering technician, or surveying experience, or


c. Four years of engineering technician, construction management or surveying experience.


Applicants with experience in drafting, surveying and/or construction management of earthwork projects will be given preference.


3) Time Management Skills. In the field office the employee will be expected to handle a large number of duties in addition to the regular project workload. These include, but are not limited to, equipment maintenance and upkeep, miscellaneous office duties and computer troubleshooting.


4) Computer Skills. The employee will possess extensive computer skills including Autocad and Microsoft office products. GIS experience is considered a plus.


5) Willingness to travel and work under challenging conditions. Extensive travel is required. Much of this position’s time (80% minimum) will be away from the office.


6) Highly organized, detail oriented and able to coordinate multiple projects at one time.


7) Must be able to operate a fourwheeler (ATV) and have a valid driver’s license.
