Ducks Unlimited recently joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to acquire the 1,043-acre Columbia Mine property adjoining Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in southern Indiana. Encompassing parts of Gibson and Pike counties, this acquisition was made by DU in partnership with the USFWS, Sycamore Land Trust, and Peabody Coal Company.
During the past year, DU and the USFWS have acquired and permanently protected more than 1,537 acres of
wetland and upland habitat for Patoka River NWR. This recent acquisition is part of a large complex of wetlands and uplands that provides vital habitat for waterfowl, upland game birds, and numerous other wildlife species.
