DU and a host of conservation partners, including Lake County Parks, Indiana DNR, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Southern Lake Michigan Coastal Wetlands Project, are working to restore wetland and upland habitat on the 240-acre Deep River Headwaters County Park and adjacent 18-acre Beaver Dam Wetland Conservation Area. DU is designing and will deliver the restoration of 3 wetlands on the property which include a 16-acre emergent wetland, an 18-acre wooded wetland and a second emergent marsh that could top 190-acres! Adjacent uplands totaling nearly 100 acres will be restored to a mosaic of native prairie and oak savannah that will promote nesting by local ducks. The design for this project is currently in the concept stage and restoration should commence in late 2003 or summer 2004.
