Nearly 300 acres of wetlands and grassland nesting cover along the Pecatonica River were restored on the Winnebago County Forest Preserve during the summer of 2001. The combination of oxbow lake, shallow marsh and native grass uplands will provide ideal habitat for nesting and migrating waterfowl. DU designed and oversaw all phases of the project thanks to the generous support of the Bruning Foundation, DU Major Donors and a $95,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources C-2000 Program. Other project partners included the Winnebago County Forest Preserve and US Fish and Wildlife Service.
