CANTON, Ill. – June 19, 2013 – William "Bill" Peak, 69, a lifelong Canton resident and avid sportsman, passed away on Aug. 8, 2012, leaving his firearms, decoys, boats and hunting equipment to Ducks Unlimited. The collection sold for nearly $60,000 at a local public auction.

"Everyone knew that Bill had some nice guns," said Emil Boucek, chairman of the Fulton County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and one of Peak's hunting companions. "Even so, I was surprised by how large this gift turned out to be. I think letting friends and neighbors have a chance to purchase items was a nice consideration and really helped make sure Bill's things brought top dollar."

The net proceeds of the auction will support DU's wetlands conservation efforts across the country and have posthumously qualified Peak as a Heritage Sponsor.

"We are pleased to honor Mr. Peak and his passion for waterfowl this way," said Jonathan Rich, DU managing director of gift planning. "Ducks Unlimited is very fortunate to have members and supporters like Bill who share our commitment to conservation."
